Unemployment in Spain rose by 77,980 people in January – Caracol Radio

Madrid, February 3 (EFE) .- The number of registered unemployed in the public employment services in Spain increased in January compared to December at 77,980 people, to 4,525,691, while membership in the Social Security down in 199,902 people, up to 16,575,312 attached to the system.

As reported today by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, unemployment figures January suppose the smallest increase in that month since 2007.

In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment decreased by 42,723 persons compared to December, the best figure recorded in the first month of the year historical series, which starts in 1996.

Over the same month 2014, unemployment fell by 288,744 people, posted the largest annual decline since 1998.

Unemployment increased in the services (76,744 people) and agriculture (15,858 people), while it decreased in industry (753 people) and construction (in 7,857 people).

The group without previous employment was cut in January at 6,012 people.

Among men, the number of unemployed increased by 25,329 people, to 2,137,837, and among women in 52,651 people, up to 2,387,854.

However, unemployment among those under 25 years was reduced in the first month of year 3,018 people.

Among the foreigners, unemployment increased by 12,208 people, to 543,199, of which the majority (352,417) come from countries outside of the European Union.

Moreover, membership in the Social Security fell by 199,902 people in January compared to December, down 1.19%, and places the number assigned to the system at 16,575,312.

According to the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, January ever recorded declines in membership and declining this year is the lowest since 2007.

In the last twelve months, increased average affiliate occupied 401,703, 2.48%. EFE
