Shoes, most pirated goods in the world: OECD – La Cronica de Hoy

The shoes, of all kinds, are the goods most pirated in the world, an illegal activity valued at about 500 billion dollars that leads China and even includes a copy of fruits, today said a report published by the OECD .

“If the shoes are the most copied products observe violations of the right to intellectual property including bananas and strawberries,” said the report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the office of the European Union of individual property (euipo).

The agencies warned that piracy affects “all kinds of products” and “endangers the lives of individuals with pieces of defective automobiles, drugs harmful effects, dangerous toys, baby milk with no nutritional value and medical instruments that give erroneous measures. ”

The report also said that piracy “does not only affect luxury goods or big business”.

“The pirates take advantage of the confidence we carry brands to weaken economies and endanger the lives of individuals,” said OECD deputy secretary, Doug Frantz.

According to the study, piracy has a major impact on world trade and on companies, mainly from the United States, Italy, France and Switzerland.

According to data collected in the report, imports of pirated products amounted to about 500 billion dollars per year, equivalent to 2.5 percent of world imports.

In the case of Europe, the report noted that 5.0 percent of the goods imported in the Old Continent are pirates.

The authors of the report, based on data collected by customs in several countries in 2013 and that does not include Internet piracy, insisted that “a large part of proceeds of those sales feeds organized crime” .

According to the report, the share of pirated products increased between 2008, the year representing 1.9 percent of world trade, and 2013, representing 2.5 percent.

Hong Kong, Turkey, Thailand, Singapore, India, United Arab Emirates and Morocco topped the list of countries producing pirated goods circulating in different circuits to reach their destination, particularly in Asia and through companies public postal mail.
