The United Kingdom told Nissan that it would seek a trade agreement without rates with Europe for the automotive sector, persuading the japanese to invest in the largest auto plant in the country.
Theresa May, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, wants the companies to have freedom to operate within the single market of the European Union (EU), his spokesman said when asked about what type of agreement sought by the british Government after leaving the block.
"I Think that the first minister has said many times that he wants the Uk to be leader of the free trade, that he wants british companies to have the maximum freedom to trade and operate in the european single market", said the spokesperson May, in response to a question about whether he wanted the Uk to remain in the customs union of the EU.
on the other hand, a Cabinet minister said last weekend that the United Kingdom had told Nissan that it would seek a trade agreement without rates with Europe for the automotive sector after Brexit, trying to persuade the japanese company to invest in the largest auto plant in the country.
Earlier, during his first participation in the European Council after becoming prime minister, May, had already asserted that the negotiations for the Uk to leave the EU would take time and that it was prepared for "difficult times", claiming that he will fight for the country to remain part of the single european market.
There, Theresa May made clear that it expected the negotiations are more complicated than London has ever seen and expects it to develop in a constructive manner.
"Obviously we will have to enter into negotiations. These negotiations will take time, I think that there will be some difficult moments, and we’re going to need to get some reciprocity," he said at a press conference.
The former Interior minister also reiterated that it would seek an agreement made as of the United Kingdom in the divorce process in the EU.
"we do Not seek to adopt a model that are other in relation to their trade with the EU. What we want is to develop a new relationship between the Uk and the EU," he said. "We want the best possible deal for the trade of goods and services, and operations within the single european market", he added.
The expression "operations inside" the single market is the new mantra of May, who since he became prime minister first concentrated on strengthening the support of his Conservative Party before embarking on the negotiations with the EU.
