The economy of the euro zone stagnated in the second quarter of the year compared with the first three months, when it was grown 0.2%, reflecting the decline in activity in Germany and Italy (-0.2% in both cases) and paralysis affecting France (0%), despite the vigor shown by countries like Spain, Portugal (+ 0.6% in both cases) and the Netherlands (+0.5%).
The economy of the euro area experienced in the second quarter expansion of 0.7% over the same period in 2012, representing a deceleration of two tenths.
Among the eurozone countries for which data were available, showed declines of Cyprus (-0.3%), Germany activity (-0 2%) and Italy (-0.2%), while in France there was no change for the second consecutive quarter.
In contrast, in 18 countries of the euro, Latvia recorded a growth of 1% , ahead of Spain, Portugal and Slovakia, whose economies grew 0.6%.
