The new coins will not replace five euro banknotes of the same value. “The two products have the same value, but completely different functions,” said today the Ministry of Finance.
While fives euros issued by the European Central Bank (ECB) serve as means of payment in the whole euro zone, the nickels euros may only be used on German territory.
