Toyota surpassed 9 million hybrid sales – Diario Uno

The cumulative figure for worldwide sales of Toyota hybrid vehicles exceeded last April 30, the 9 million vehicles (exactly 9,014,000 units) under the Toyota and Lexus brands.

The last million units reached in just nine months, as they had exceeded 8 million hybrids in August 2015.

One of the priorities is to help Toyota mitigate the effects cars on the environment, the Japanese company said. The company is convinced that the impact of the vehicles that are environmentally friendly can only be truly positive if its use is widespread, so it has been proposed to encourage the widespread adoption of hybrid vehicles worldwide.

In August 1997, Toyota launched Coaster Hybrid EV, and in December of the same year Prius, the first hybrid car produced in series in the world.

Since then, “hybrid vehicles Toyota has achieved great success worldwide, “he emphasized the company in a press release.

In 2015, Toyota added a hybrid variant of its popular minivan Feel and started sales worldwide of its hybrid icon: the fourth generation Prius.

On an international scale, Toyota launched hybrid versions of Corolla and Levin in China and added the RAV4 hybrid variant of its increasingly wide range of hybrids. By the end of April 2016, Toyota sells 33 models of hybrid models and a “plug-in” hybrid in more than 90 countries and regions.

In October last year unveiled the Environmental Challenge Toyota 2050, which describes the obstacles that will have to overcome to minimize possible negative impact of cars on the health of the planet and how contribute to sustainable development of society.

to meet these challenges, Toyota is working to further expand its range of hybrid vehicles and try to contribute to environmental care reaching annual sales of 1.5 million units of hybrid models and a cumulative sales of 15 million units of such vehicles by 2020.

Toyota estimates that, until last April 30, the use of hybrid vehicles rather than brand conventional cars of similar size and performance has achieved a reduction of about 67 million tons of emissions CO23 – considered one of the causes of climate change -.

on the other hand, Toyota estimates that its hybrid vehicles have saved approximately 25,000 million liters of gasoline, compared with the amount used by fossil fuel vehicles in the same category.
