News of Spain

After spending for much of the crisis installed by above 20%, the rate of unemployment Catalan could fall to 12% at the end of 2017. This is the forecast of BBVA Research, the research service of the company, which also provides for an increase of between 2.9% and Catalonia 3.3% this year and 2.7% next year. This would generate 215,000 posts fein and leave the percentage of unemployed below 13%.

The head of BBVA Research, Rafael Domenech, chief economist said Monday that domestic demand and the pace of the export sector will continue to drive the Catalan economy. Nevertheless, Domenech has warned of the impact of Brexit could reduce “in three or four tenths” this growth.

As he added, regardless of how the output of the United Kingdom of the European Union “the sum will remain” the growth of Catalan GDP in the next two years is managed primarily due to improved data employment. Domenech does not rule out that forecasts for this year to reach the level of 2015, when it grew 3.3%.

Regarding the deficit of the Generalitat, Domenech was convinced that Catalonia can not meet its deficit target . “I think what the Government also should be clear,” he said at the press conference this afternoon.

However, the BBVA advocates “continue reforms to modernize the Catalan economy and prepare for Fronted internal and external risks.”
