Tesla said this week that all their new cars will have a novel hardware-driving autonomous built-in serial, which will allow in the future they can take you on the motorway is practically independent, similar to the vehicles that make up the investigations of Google.

This means that each vehicle will include an eight camera, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a radar in the front. Tesla says that it is implementing a new on-board computer that will process the data and take management decisions. The computer uses a processor Nvidia GPUS Titan, and is able to direct a neural network, so that it can process images and define objects in your environment.

According to Musk, the new hardware is compatible with level 5 of autonomy, which means that the vehicle may be driving by themselves. However, Tesla is not going to allow full self-driving immediately. Instead Musk says the company will launch features that will help to improve the safety of drivers, until you finally reach full autonomy.

Tesla aims to use the data collected by the sensors of the car to drive virtually millions of miles, and so perfect the system before activating functions of automatic driving.

Until Tesla completes its tests with the new software and hardware features like the new adaptive cruise control and emergency braking will not be enabled in the new models of Tesla. Musk provided no details on when it will activate the functions of the driver assistance based on the new hardware.

The cars that are already on the road and that have the that Tesla called “hardware one”, with a set of sensors less robust, will not have the function of self-driving, although the company refined the software to provide all the updates possible.
