Apple halts electric car project to devote to self: report – CNET in Spanish

Apple could have changed the course of the ‘Project Titan’ or at least pause to devote more time to the self-autonomous.

If you expect to see a car from Apple on the roads in 2020 that would play with your iPhone, iPad, and Watch, you’ll have to wait a little more. At least so says a new report from Bloomberg, which indicates that the company would be established as the highest priority to develop a driving system autonomous.

People related with the projects of Apple, told the source that although the company has hundreds of engineers working on the design of their own cars, and the Project Titan could have had the ideal date to launch the year 2020, delays and technical confusion on the objectives of the company would have clouded the picture.

The lack of north would have made Apple to rethink its strategy, slowing the project of the electric car, that in theory represents the Project Titan, and giving a higher priority to a driving system autonomous. According to Bloomberg, Apple does not abandon completely the dream of having your own vehicle on the road, although this could reach by other routes such as association with an automobile manufacturer.

At the beginning of September a report from The New York Times already warned that Apple was closing down parts of the Project Titan, and was laying off some of its employees.

The source also noted that this change of course could come thanks to Dan Dodge, the founder and ceo of QNX, a developer of software for vehicles acquired by BlackBerry in 2010, and who would have joined the team of Cupertino at the beginning of the year.

The company that comes from Dodge is the responsible of the entertainment system of vehicles such as Volkswagen AG, DaimlerChrysler or Ford Motor, said Bloomberg. The source also claims that Apple is opening a research and development centre in Ontario, Canada, very close to the axis of QNX, where scientists and researchers related to the world of the automotive industry.

While the future of Apple, and the business of self is changing, recently it became known that Fiat Chrysler would see with good eyes a job with Samsung in the future of the automotive industry and in particular of the cars connected.
