Data Lakes: to convert into data the information – The Reporter

In the Middle Ages, the raw material was the land. In the industrial era, it was important to the steel. Today, the cell minimum of the things are the bits. And, more precisely, the data, a term that only makes sense when the information it is given value and a context. The concept of Data Lakes has to be understood under the umbrella of that definition. Because it involves, as its name says, the face of a real loch Ness of unstructured information. Or, to put it another way, no information is small enough to not be saved in a Data Lake and, until sense and analyze it with the tools of Big Data or Business Intelligence, have no relevance to the business.
The lakes data are repositories where information is saved flat, with no tabulated or classi fied. They are becoming increasingly popular as catalogs, highly scalable to store information of various origins. An organization that manages data, for example, “poured” in this lake and retrieves them when necessary: that is when it gives them order and structure to be able to analyze and create value. The various tools that arise from Big Data are responsible for this second job. “The idea is to have repositories that integrate information, while preserving, never accessing. All the rivers of information to land there and the Data Lakes focus also the key to create a governance. Today, companies are investing in collecting data, which are not yet doing a lot to make sense of it. It is, as it says Gabriel Left, CEO of the consulting firm BTR, a gold mine whose potential is far from exploited.

Without great players

Today various companies sell services lakes of data, but its exploitation is still in its early stages. IBM has a tool that works with Watson, a manager of artificial intelligence. But the experience there is quite limited. There are No great players that have come out into the market aggressively. A bank of massive consumption, that processes a high number of transactions, is not going to be hiring of services for operation of a Data Lake; today they are only adding information,” says Lefty.
To the CEO of BTR, the adoption of Data Lakes could change, even, the role of certain jobs within Systems. “To the extent that such information amorphous grow is going to be impossible for the Security Officer to handle alone.
