Wall Street cedes to 0.4%, pressured by data trade China – Ambito.com

Wall Street today closed lower and the Dow Jones of Industrial, its main indicator, yielded 0.25%, after a day of volatile in which you came to lose momentarily the psychological barrier of 18,000 points, in the midst of declines in the financial sector and after weak economic data from China.

According to provisional data at the close of business, the index fell 45,26 points and finished in 18.098,94 units, the selective S&P 500 fell 0.31 % and the composite index of the Nasdaq market fell by 0,49 %.

For its part, the main european stock markets closed lower Thursday, affected also by the poor indicators chinese. The London stock exchange closed the session with a fall of 0.7%, with the FTSE-100 of leading values to 6.977,74 points (-46,27).

In Frankfurt, the Dax index gave 1% to 10.414,07 points.On the parquet floor of paris, the cac40 index had registered a drop of 1.1% to 4.405,17 points (-47,07). The Ibex-35 in Madrid fell 0.9% this Thursday to 8.608,7 points. Also the square of Milan closed lower, with the FTSE Mib yielding 1,2% to 16.269 points.

The chinese exports fell 10% in September compared with the same month of the previous year, an evolution much worse than expected, while imports contracted unexpectedly by 1.9% after rising in August.

That dejó the country with a trade surplus of u$ s 41.990 million for the month, on Thursday said the General Administration of Customs.

The contraction of imports raises questions about the strength of the recent recovery of domestic demand, said Julian Evans-Pritchard of Capital Economics, in a note released after the report of the figures.

“The data we have so far suggests that a fall in import volumes of several key commodities, like iron ore and copper, are in part responsible,” he said.

“This could be an early sign that the recent recovery of economic activity is losing momentum, although we would warn against giving too much importance to a single point of data given the volatility in the trade figures,” he added.

The Tokyo Stock exchange closed this Thursday to the low, due to the strengthening of the yen, which reacted to the bad data on the foreign trade in China.

The Nikkei ended with a fall of 65,76 points, 0.39%, and was in the 16.774,24 integers.
