Catalonia received until August 11.7 million foreign tourists … – Expansión.com

One in four foreign visitors who came to Spain chose the autonomous region, according to the Ministry of Industry and Tourism

Catalonia received 25.8% of visits foreign tourists, while Canary autonomy was registered the highest increase in arrivals, up 11.9% to 7.5 million tourists. Madrid followed with an increase of 8.8% and more than 3 million visitors.

The autonomous region received between January and August 11.7 million foreign tourists, representing an increase of 6 1% over the same period of 2013, according to the survey of Inbound Tourism (Frontur), released today by the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.

It was precisely in Barcelona in August when the main tourist resort in Catalonia, a debate which still follows- on tourist behavior, especially antisocial attitudes following allegations some visitors in the neighborhood of Barceloneta broke.

In total, the set of Spain received between January and August a record 45.4 million foreign tourists, representing a growth of 7.3% over the same period of 2013.

The most tourists came from UK, Germany and especially France. Thus, the arrival of French tourists increased 10.4%, to 7.6 million; while the British grew 5.6% (10.5 million), and German, 7.5% (7.1 million).

The biggest rallies were for Belgian (1 , 5 million) and Italy (2.6 million), with increases of 17.9 and 13.7%, respectively. In contrast, tourist arrivals from Russia fell 5% to 1.06 million, and from the United States fell 0.5% (0.88 million).
