The Madrid celebrated the “spectacular” 21.6 percent increase in spending by foreign tourists in the region in August, annual rate, about 13 percentage points above the national average, where the total expenditure grew by 8.7 percent.
Spending by foreign tourists in August in Madrid amounted to 478 million euros, 5.3 percent of the total received in Spain, which reached 9,087,000, noted the regional government said in a statement, after learning the details of the Tourist Expenditure Survey (Egatur), published Friday by the Ministry of Industry , Energy and Tourism .
also noted that the same poll suggests that “Madrid is still a major host communities and spending most of this indicator increases year on year,” while “maintaining the national leadership both on the average daily spending by foreign tourists, which is 189 euros, 102 euros compared to the national average, and the average expenditure per tourist, which stood at 1357 euros, compared with 1,002 euros of the national average ” .
also pointed out that in the period January to August, the increase was 12.3 percent compared to the same period last year, to 3,600 million euros. France, Italy and distant markets were the main contributors to this increase.
On the other hand, stressed that these figures the expenditure of foreign tourists go in line with the increase experienced in the flow of foreign tourists. The Community received in August 352,179 foreign visitors, representing a growth of 19.1 percent over the same month in 2013, well above the national average which stands at 8.8 percent, according the latest Survey of Tourist Movement Borders (Frontur).
Among the foreign tourists visiting the region of Madrid in August highlights from France (51,055), Italy (35,211) , Portugal (33,823), USA (26,221), UK (22,436) and Germany (13,352).
In the cumulative first eight months of the year, the Madrid received 3,005,582 tourists, with a growth of 8.8 percent, well above the overall average of Spain which stood at 7.3 percent.
