Madrid, Sep 18 (Thomson Financial) .- The European Central Bank (ECB) has given to the Spanish banking at least 14,700 million euros of 82,601,000 awarded today to a total of 255 banks in the euro area in order to reactivate credit with a repayment term of 4 years and an interest rate of 0.15%.
Today is the first of two financing transactions to four years the ECB will undertake this year for a maximum total of 400,000 million euros, while the second will take place in December.
In the case of Spanish banks, five of them (Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank, Bankia and Popular) They had asked about 14,700 million in the first auction, an amount that would have obtained full, as reported by EFE market sources.
In the case of Banco Santander, the total amount awarded by the ECB 3,600 million , of which 3,000 will be allocated to continue reactivating credit in Spain, and another 600 million to do the same in Portugal, explain market sources.
Meanwhile, BBVA would have earned 2,500 million ; CaixaBank, 3.000 million; Bankia, 2,700 million and Banco Popular, 2847000.
Other entities such as Banco Sabadell and Bankinter, would have preferred to wait until December to attend the ECB window for an amount that would be around 5,000 million in the case of Sabadell and 1,500 million for Bankinter, added the sources.
Four of the other five states, Santander, BBVA, CaixaBank and Popular- also plan to attend the auction December, and may be asked together 22,000 million, so the total amount of requests of Spanish banks on both occasions would be around 36,000 million.
Only Bankia has called in a row the 2,700 million to those who chose, an amount allocated full loans to SMEs and independent, with a reduction of 30% in interest, announced yesterday the entity.
In these two operations banks can borrow maximum of 7% of their loans to businesses and households, excluding mortgages.
