Luis de Guindos, Spanish Minister of Economy and Finance, stated for the record that the decision to appoint Ana P. Botín as president of Banco Santander following the death of his father, Emilio Botin, is “adequate and very natural.”
As Economy Minister Guindos said that “the government does not have to say anything” about “a decision of the management bodies of a company.” But speaking personally, the minister stressed “the chosen people” therefore “characteristics” as “experience”.
“In my personal opinion, the person chosen for their characteristics and their experience has been as important parts of the Banco Santander group, I think it was adequate and very natural succession “, said the minister during the informal meeting of Ministers of Economy and Finance of the European Union (Ecofin) held today in Milan.
Banco Santander announced the death of its chief executive, Emilio Botín, on 10 September. That same afternoon, the Board of Directors of the bank, Ana P. Botín naming as his successor in office.
De Guindos said that the end of their participation in the Ecofin, will travel from Milan to Santander to attend the funeral of Spanish banker.
