The Economy Minister Luis de Guindos said that the Spanish banking prompted around 30,000 million euros to the European Central Bank (ECB) lend in “very competitive” environment to businesses, especially small and medium-sized (SMEs) and individuals.
In an interview published yesterday in La Vanguardia, De Guindos admitted that “there is concern that the recovery is fragile, does not take force,” but stressed that it does not share the forecasts of some analysts who speak of a third relapse in the euro zone. “I am not so pessimistic,” he said.
The Minister of Economy does not believe that the European Union will have no negative growth in the coming quarters, but it was “imperative” put “emphasis” on the reforms.
De Guindos expected that despite the slowdown that is recorded in Europe, the Spanish economy will end the third quarter of the year with growth around 0.5%.
Asked about the sovereignty issue of Catalonia, the minister also noted that neither investors nor analysts consider likely secession of Catalonia, because it is not a “neither rational nor realistic nor possible” scenario.
In addition, the economy minister said that Catalonia is one of the communities that has taken advantage of the reforms undertaken by the government headed by Mariano Rajoy.
